About Me

I have lived in Norfolk for the past 25 years and wouldn’t choose to live anywhere else! In 2001 my husband, Darren, and I bought a fixer-upper in Ghent and have been lovingly “fixing up” our home ever since. We live with our three girls; Hayden, 19, Emersen, 16,  Parker,14, and 4-legged child Roxy. All three of my girls are at or have gone to Norfolk Public Schools.

While I am the educator running for school board I did not initially decide to pursue a career in teaching. After being stuck in Boston on a work trip on September 11 I realized that I needed to do work that was more meaningful than I was currently doing. I quit my job, spent the summer transitioning to teaching by participating in Old Dominion University’s Career Switchers program and spent the first anniversary as a high school math teacher for Norfolk Public Schools.

Over the last two decades I have taught at the high school  and community college level.  I continue to be a full-time math faculty member at Tidewater Community College. I have served on PTA’s and was the PTA President at my daughters’ elementary and middle schools.  I have volunteered in the schools and now serve as a board member for the Maury Boosters

As the Faculty Senate Chair at Tidewater Community College I work with both the faculty and administration by attending the President’s Cabinet meetings, Tidewater Community College Bard Meetings and leading a monthly Senate Meeting where there is faculty representation from all of our campuses. .

I am deeply rooted in the education of this community and believe that I am best qualified to serve as your school board representative for Superward 6.
